Add a Council Event

Submission

Councils are encouraged to share events with a broader audience through WACA’s Council Network Calendar on the WACA website. This calendar is primarily intended to promote Council events, with particular focus on virtual events that can broaden Councils’ audiences online. The calendar also highlights certain types of in-person events to showcase Council accomplishments to other Councils, the general public, and outside partners of the Council network. Councils wishing to share more in-person programs are welcome to continue to do so for inclusion in the WACA email newsletter.

Criteria for Events to Appear on WACA Website

Speaker events with a virtual option will be automatically accepted

We will continue to support in-person events in our weekly newsletter.

In-person events will be accepted on a case-by-case basis

Appropriate in-person events to feature on Council Network Calendar include: award ceremonies, galas, conferences, ceremonial end-of-year dinners, etc.

In-person events that will not be approved include: fully in-person speaker programs, informal social events (trivia, dinners, cookouts), Council trips, luncheons, etc.

How to Upload Events to WACA Website

1) Ensure you are logged into your Council’s profile.
2) If the event is virtual or hybrid, select “This is a digital event.”
3) Provide a title for your event, including your Council's location in parentheses. For example "American Democracy at the Crossroads (Northern California)" or "A Conversation with... (Peoria)." Use the location rather than the official name of the Council.
4) In the description, begin with “Presenting Council: [Your Council]” using your official name.

I.e. “Presenting Council: Juneau World Affairs Council”

5) If there are co-sponsoring Councils, under “Presenting Council,” identify the co-sponsors.

I.e. “Presenting Council: Juneau World Affairs Council” [hit enter] “Co-Sponsors: Global Minnesota and the World Affairs Council of Charlotte”

6) Provide a description of the event under Presenting Council (and Co-Sponsors, if applicable)
7) Set the event’s begin and end date and times, along with the event’s time zone.
8) Select the appropriate category from available options.
9) Paste the event registration link to “Website Link to Register.”
10) Add the contact information for the event.
11) Click “Submit.”

Note: If the event is an appropriate in-person event, do not select “Digital Event” and instead enter the event’s address. If the event is a Hybrid Speaker Event, select “Digital Event” and then choose the “Hybrid Speaker Event” category.

We are excited for the 2026-2027 Academic WorldQuest season! If your Council plans to hold a local contest and send your winning team to the national AWQ competition in April 2027, it all starts by completing this form.

Note: This form must only be submitted by staff of local World Affairs Councils. If you are a teacher, administrator, or student, contact your local Council regarding AWQ 2027. Do not fill out this form, as all non-Council staff submissions will be deleted.
